In Home Session Guide

Wondering what to expect with an In Home Photography Session with Creative Phoenix Photographer; Jennifer Lind Schutsky? Here’s a peek at our process and advice for planning your In-Home session….

Let’s Get Cozy

First things first. We need time to get comfortable with each other. I suggest starting with a few things that your know relax you, tea, cocktail, a cozy blanket whatever makes you feel safe and comfortable let’s start there! Next up, I start taking test shots, most of these are just lighting and angles I want to play with, but every once in a while there’s a gem in there.

Setting the scene: a list of my favorite rooms to shoot in...

Bedroom

For those romantic shots, strip down to your most comfortable layers and we can get you tangled up for intimate cuddles.

Bathroom

This is my favorite spot to watch you getting ready, men shave their faces, women do their hair, whatever you do as part of your routine, I’d love to capture it.

Tub or Shower

Steamy sessions with couples are great in showers or tubs, you don’t even need to strip down all the way, unless you want to. I just love including water in our sessions.

Livingroom

The whole fam. cozy on the couch, bathing in the window light, or maybe its night time and we want to get a cuddle puddle with the fur babies, whatever it is, this is often the most versatile space in the home.

Kitchen

This is where most families bond, if you want to prepare a meal together it can turn into a romantic dinner, or maybe just make your partner coffee or a cocktail.

Posed or unposed

For in home sessions I rarely “pose” people, instead I prompt you into certain situations and move around to get the best shot! If you have mood or vibe you’re going for, let me know ahead of time - so I can think ahead of how to get you into those poses and situations without over directing!

I love to shoot into mirrors, windows and reflective surfaces, so don’t worry if I’m not pointing the camera directly at you.

Emotions

Sometimes I’ll ask questions and while you’re answering I’ll start shooting. Other times, I’ll ask you to share a secret with your partner, don’t worry - I’ll give you both time too think of your answer. This technique is a little bit like therapy and you might feel some uncomfortable thoughts or emotions, you’re in a safe space and you don’t have to answer anything you don’t want to. Jjust prepared for deep thoughts and big feels.

Time travel

The reason I love in-home sessions so much is because when you get the images back from our session they age like a fine wine. You don’t need to look at them everyday, though I always recommend printing your images, more like you take them out once in a while to make sure they’re still there. Still preserved. To share when ready.

Families

Families change, kids grow up. Documenting a family in a sentimental home will always age well.

Couples

Couples taking time to honor their commitment, passion and care for one and other always ages well, plus its one of the few places you can be truely intimate.

Intergenerational

Another recommendation is to document multiple generations at once at home, it’s where everyone feels most comfortable and showcases the interwoven relationships between eras.
