Self Portrait Project Vol 1

I started a self portrait project challenge this year and am trying to use my personal creativity and my own image to make a collection of work. I rarely feel the confidence to try something truly new in a paid session so this creative work is essential to my growth as an artist. Do they always turn out perfect? are they all something I would print? heck no, some of these are trash. But the act of making them, shows me what I like and what I dislike, so I can improve and perfect what I do like and then things I can cull out completely. Things I dislike settings I’ll never use on clients and so on. It’s also been helpful in showing me my own insecurities and physical strengths. Body positivity can only reach so far into our conscious when so much of our culture has planted judgement and shame so deep into our subconscious. There is work to be done to deconstruct our negative thoughts and beliefs for me this #SelfPortProj is how I’m doing that work for myself.

Please join me by posting any images of yourself thoughtfully created, with the hashtag #SelfPortProj

my rules for myself are; images must be taken with my REAL camera, timer or remote shutter release, and must be edited with the care and compassion used when editing client work.
