Why I Still Shoot Film For Myself and My Family a Peek into My Process
It’s really important to me to have the connectiono with film and the delayed gratification of photography for not only my own emotional benefit but also for my creative process. It’s not just about what I like, it’s about training my eye to see with film, there’s only one shot, slow down or speed up. Don’t miss the moment. Be ready. A little more about my process:
Process & Experience
How long does it take to get film photos back?
Sneak peek on digital within 24 hours
Full collection on digital within 2 weeks
Film within 2-4 weeks
Do film photographers edit their images?
I don’t, but you can. If there’s a very specific change that needs to be made i can do that, but the magic of film is actually how it turns out is how it turns out!
What happens if a roll of film is damaged or lost?
While I don’t plan on ever losing or damaging a roll of film, unpredictable things can happen, and I do shoot almost all the same shots on digital as back up, not exactly but enough that you shouldn’t lose specific moments if the film is lost or damaged on my error I would refund the cost of the film. (It’s literally never happened to me though!)
Can I request a specific film stock or aesthetic?
Yes! duh, my favorite is Kodak portra 400 and Ilford HP5 plus Black and White, but I also love variety - so make requests!
How do film photographers handle different lighting conditions?
Film cameras have light meters! this allows us to adjust f/stop and shutter speed to match the needs of the lighting conditions AND of course I still bring my flash so we have options! I also plan ahead knowing if I’m shooting indoors or outside and what time of day that is, if unpredictable conditions I would bring more film speed options.
