Can you believe I forgot I had these images on these roles of film?!
I forgot I had these images on these roles of film.
I've been making sure to take at least one to two photos at every session with my film camera, but those images are more just for me and to experiment and to practice my film skills.
When people add on a package with film photography, they get a whole role and I develop it right away and nice and those images to them. But in these situations, this is just more for myself and kind of forcing myself to use an older format when traveling as opposed to just taking pictures of everything with my iPhone or my digital camera, which gives me Instant results - things that I can post and share right away where as film requires patients and it also requires me to trust that I am capturing exactly what I see in front of me. How I see it and what I want to remember about that experience.
I'm definitely still practicing my framing skills and what is worth taking photos of because I practiced at a market in Spain and honestly the images aren't really all that impressive to me.
It's kind of cool to see how the film came through though. I used flash indoors, but it didn't really have that same crispness that I love and that I see in the same role of film at the beach with the water sparkling it's kind of just like flat and so I think that it's definitely important to practice your skills, no matter what skills and what industry you're in.
So for me, this is definitely more of just my practice and becoming part of my creative process which no I don't want to streamline or make more efficient.
This is part of the play.
It's part of the fun of working with a different medium than I'm used to. This is actually the first format of art that I ever really experienced, film photography, but over the years with digital I've gotten away from film because digital is so alluring and honestly, I feel like that's what a lot of people are learning about AI. It's kinda like fun. You can do something cool or different that maybe you haven't been able to do before but at the end of the day it's not really anything better than what your own imagination can come up with and so going back to older formats and more textile and tactile based mediums is really what I think is going to be the next wave of creativity.
