Downtown Engagement Session for Nicole and Paul by Phoenix Wedding Photographer Jennifer Lind Schutsky
I actually love a little challenge.
We thought I could shoot this engagement session at the Japanese Friendship Garden (I’ve been there before but years ago I guess because no, you can’t, you need the $300 permit to photograph here) Since we already paid admission I snapped a few unintrusive shots while we walked around. After we went to the nearby park just outside the gates and did some urban shots after our nature portion of the session. I love a unique backdrop and pride myself on being able to find nooks that don’t feel like the Arizona desert (unless that’s the vibe we’re going for) I think we did okay with some bright bold murals but wish I would have realized how strict the garden was about photography.
So now, I’m telling you, find some where else with more greenery, I like the desert botanical gardens and some local farms for green, but also take note of climbing vines around town - I keep a list in my maps for all the places I see as I’m driving around, like did you know PV Mall has the best grass for picnic shots? welp now you do, there’s also a church downtown that has the most luscious green grass year round. The thing about photographers is we’re always hunting and thinking about how we can use a space.
That’s actually what you’re paying for… your photographer’s vision. So make sure you like their style, or trust the creative process okay? we love you and want to make sure you love your images too!
